Harvesting Fields of Time When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. —Leviticus 19:9
When the phone rang, I congratulated myself for checking caller ID. Jennifer again. I let voice mail answer. “Gaye, it’s Jennifer. I . . . we haven’t talked in a while and I just wanted to hear your voice.” And tell me the latest crisis in your life. Jennifer seemed to call at the most inconvenient times. I grew adept at dodging her interruptions. My husband, Jim, checked the phone and turned off my vacuum cleaner. “Sorry to interrupt, but why didn’t you pick up?” I blew strands of hair out of my face and let out a sigh. “Because it won’t be a five-minute conversation, that’s why— can’t you see I’m swamped?” Jim nodded. “As you are every day, sweetheart. Jennifer sounded like she needed a friend. Should she make an appointment? It’s not like she was asking for a kidney.” I managed my time well, not one minute of the day wasted. Had I planned and scheduled myself right out of the lives of
the very people God wanted me to serve?
