Relying on God Only In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. —2 Corinthians 1:9
My ten-year-old daughter and her friend wandered over to me during the softball game. “Where’s Anisha?” I asked. They were supposed to watch my four-year-old while I played softball. I’d watched the girls from my position at second base and when I was in the dugout. But I couldn’t keep my eyes on them while I batted. “She wouldn’t obey me,” her older sister, Leslie, said. “So you gave up?” Leslie shifted her feet. “We didn’t think she’d go off on her own.” I went to find my daughter. As I walked around the giant community area where people cooked meals, played games, and partied, I realized this was the perfect place for an abduction. “Please, God,” I prayed, “Don’t let this turn out badly.” Other people joined me. We finally found Anisha eating a hot dog with some picnickers. I was thankful and learned not to count on my older daughter to watch her sister. I also learned that I needed to rely on God for everything, to
keep in touch with Him, and to cry out to Him for His love and care whenever my family or I needed it.
Little or big, rely on God. He will come through. — Clay Taylor —
