Helping the Next One Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. —Romans 13:10

My husband and I decided to climb Old Rag Mountain with our son Erik’s Boy Scout troop. From his reports the previous year, we knew it would be challenging, but nothing prepared us for the vertical climbs, leaps of faith, and places where only teamwork would allow you to continue. At one such place, Erik’s friend Tyler stationed himself. A strong and athletic young man, he could easily have been one of the first to reach the top. Instead, he anchored in a niche in the rock and offered a hand to those below him. When I had passed his station and thanked him, he simply smiled, nodded, and then offered his hand to the person below me on the trail. His hand up had given me the lift I required; now he had a mission for the next person in need. Later on in the trail, we used Tyler’s example to help other climbers. And helping each other, we all made it to the top.

Let’s always remember that most of the Ten Commandments boil down to

one—to love our neighbors as ourselves. — Susan Lyttek —
