Wrapped in a Holy Embrace And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. —Matthew 18:5
It was love at first sight. As we sat next to each other at church, her I-know-something-you-don’t-know smile radiated sweet innocence. Her mother returned my inquiring glance, giving me unspoken permission to interact with her charming daughter. One gentle touch from me was all it took. My newfound young friend climbed up in my lap and rested her head on my shoulder. Her legs curled to her chest while she sucked her thumb. For half an hour, I held this precious teenager—going on two. Tears dripped down my cheeks as I sensed the arms of Jesus enfolding the two of us. The warmth of His loving embrace so touched the deepest needs of my heart that I scarce dared to move, lest this holy moment end. While I may never understand why children suffer disabilities, one Down syndrome child let me in on her very special secret. Listen close and maybe you’ll hear her too: Jesus loves me, this I know!
No matter our limitations, God has a great purpose for our lives. — Nora Peacock —
