Lay Down Your Life We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. —1 John 3:16
Ground Zero, 2002. At the bottom of that lifeless pit, I encountered a young man who traveled to New York on 9/11 and stayed to help wherever he was needed. He left his job, his family, and his life to serve. I asked him what he would do now that his work was done. With tears in his eyes, he said, “Well ma’am, I am doing the only thing I can, I’m joining the army.” This selfless man was ready and able to do the job I couldn’t. He was willing to lay down his life to defend America and protect my children in a war against evil. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t waver. He knew what he was called to do. He knew love. As a middle-aged housewife and mother, I couldn’t go to war, but I could support those who did. For the next six years, I organized gift drives for soldiers. Pouring God’s love into every package, I never forgot the commitment of that young man to lay down his life.
Laying down your life looks different for everyone, but God’s love in you will always look the same. — Tricia Propson —
