Carried by Him He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young. —Isaiah 40:11
I remember the last time my father carried me. It was fifty-one years ago. I was six. I stayed behind with chicken pox while my parents and sister and brother went to a nearby town. Our school band was marching in a parade. I wanted to go, but because of the pox, I stayed with a neighbor. When he arrived home, Dad came to get me. I wore pajamas, a housecoat, and socks. We started to walk across the yard, but after a few steps, Daddy asked, “Would you like for me to carry you?” I let him pick me up. He was tall—well over six feet—and strong. I recall how it felt to be in his arms, and the lurching ride of his long steps. I saw the world from his view, higher and farther from the ground. Dad is gone now, but I remember the last time he carried me. I’m in our heavenly Father’s arms now and feel His strength, His steps, and His care for me.
Our heavenly Father’s arms are gentle, but strong enough to carry us and all of our burdens. — Brad Dixon —
