Love Written on Stone We love each other because he loved us first. —1 John 4:19

Father, it’s such a beautiful morning. You know how much I love the shells and other gifts you send me in this tide pool. Can you please send a special treasure today?” I spoke these words to my heavenly Daddy while strolling across the rugged lava shoreline on Hawaii’s Big Island. I come here often and relish the intimate moments of communion we share together. As soon as the words left my lips, I rounded a bend and instantly found His response. The words “I love you” were carefully written out in large easy-to-read letters with the white coral that washes up on this beach. The stone-like letters contrasted sharply with the ebony volcanic backdrop, as if adding an exclamation point to His pronouncement. Because I am an artist, the beauty of the design made the message even more meaningful. God, my Creator, knew how to show me His love in the most intimate way. My heart trembled with gratitude. “I love you too, Abba.”

Though some ways are more obvious than others, God is always expressing His love for us through His creation. — Karen Ellison —
