You Fed Me For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. —Matthew 25:35

While my husband recovered from a near-death experience, God called us to manage housing for low-income and homeless people. This was far beyond our natural experience, but all God requires is love and obedience. Often our residents struggled with making good life decisions including money management. Sometimes their cupboards were empty. With Thanksgiving approaching, God put it on our hearts to provide a Thanksgiving meal for them with all the trimmings. Dinner for forty-five people—we needed a miracle like the five loaves and two fish. God supplied the food and I cooked a turkey dinner just like Grandma’s. One-by-one they came, shocked that someone cared enough to prepare this feast. With smiles and words of thanks, they settled in to eat their meal. Through tear-filled eyes, I saw what an offering of love can do to mend a broken life. Love flooded the building that day as God touched their hearts and they hungered no more.

When God opens our hearts to love others, we can satisfy their hunger. — Barbara Hollace —
