The One in Charge You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. —Genesis 50:20

Ginger, we want you to train Brian to take over part of your job,” my boss, Jim, said as he announced he was moving me from being full-time to part-time. Brian had no experience in my field. He worked in a separate area of the company—one that was overstaffed. Financial cuts were necessary, and rather than just let Brian go from the overstaffed department, the company was putting me on parttime and keeping Brian full-time. I’d been hired later than Brian, I made more money . . . and Brian was related to the boss. After several months of training Brian, I was laid off entirely. And Brian was moved fully into the position I’d been released from. As I scrambled to find more work, I dealt with all the expected frustrations, hurts, and sense of unfairness of the situation. But the Lord reminded me of Joseph in Genesis 37–50. Joseph didn’t let the unfairness of his situations get him down. Instead, he trusted his loving Lord to take care of him no matter what people did. And sure enough, his faith was rewarded. Eventually, mine was too.

When people let you down, remember that your loving Father is still in charge. — Ginger Livingston —
