Do the Good Things For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. —Ephesians 2:10

My daughter ran to me, terrified, to tell me about her big sister’s accident. “Nicole fell off her bike and her knee is broken,” she cried. I rushed out and found Nicole in a heap, clutching her leg. “Let me see it, honey,” I said. There was a gouge in her kneecap, and I could see the whiteness of bone beyond. I rushed her to the ER, where a doctor probed the wound with a long needle. Nicole screamed the whole time and I held her hand, consoling, “It’ll be over soon, honey. Just hang in there. It’ll be okay.” I’d never heard screams as loud as hers. But soon the doctors had her in good shape. Afterward, I said, “I’m sorry I held your hand so tightly, honey, but you screamed loud.” She said, “If you hadn’t held my hand like that, Daddy, I would have screamed worse.” It’s funny in a way. But the situation wasn’t. God came through as always. I’m always startled to see God work like that. I shouldn’t be, for that is His nature. He wants to do good in our lives because He loves us.

God’s love is there even when someone is screaming. — Richard Holland —
