On My Best Behavior I will be careful to live a blameless life — when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. —Psalm 101:2
What do you mean you left the girls to sled at the park while you ran down the street and got a taco? They’re not old enough to be left at the park alone! Someone could have grabbed them or they could have gotten hurt.” “Well, I was hungry,” my husband said. “I guess it wasn’t the smartest thing to do. I just didn’t think about that.” The crazy thing is that he’s brilliant. I call him my encyclopedia because he has an amazing array of knowledge. But my first impression of him was that he was an absentminded professor type of guy, and I truly hit the nail on the head at the beginning. I have lots of common sense, so sometimes it’s really exasperating when my husband doesn’t think. That’s when my mouth goes into action with words I shouldn’t say. Why is it so easy for us, sometimes, to be unkind and cutting to those we love the most? I’m working at biting my tongue when my husband doesn’t think or when my kids squabble. I’m trying to learn to be on my best behavior with
those I love the most.
Kindness, gentle words, and loving forgiveness need to start at home. — Janet Graham —
