The One Who Wants to Help Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “ Lord,” the man said, “ if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched him. “ I am willing,” he said. “ Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. —Matthew 8:2–3

But Mommy, I’m afraid to ask Daddy for help,” my little one said, burying her head in my leg. “He’s busy on his computer and might get mad.” Mentally I had to concur with my daughter. Her father certainly didn’t like to be disturbed from his work on the computer. I could understand her hesitancy. The leper in Matthew didn’t have that hesitation. When he came to Jesus, I imagine the crowds parted quickly! But this leper was desperate enough to brave people’s anger to get close to Jesus. Once there, he came straight to the point: “If you want to, you can make me well again.” Jesus didn’t say, “Let me think about it.” Or, “Just a minute.” Instead He instantly said, “I want you to be healed.” Not only that, but Jesus actually touched this man—a medical pariah of society who was probably oozing and gross. What needs do you have? If you’ll battle through the circumstances to reach Jesus, He will meet them—not only will, but wants to. He’s eager for you to feel His healing,

loving, empowering touch.

Jesus wants to meet our needs with His healing touch. — Jenni Davenport —
