Two Best Men The man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father. —Proverbs 29:3
When my son Brendan was getting married, my wife and I were reviewing candidates from a long list of groomsmen, trying to guess the one he would choose for best man. He had a number of close friends, and we were worried one or more might be hurt when he made his selection. When he called and told us he would like his grandpa and me to share the role, I was overwhelmed. This is something you do for your close buddy. Then I realized that was exactly what he was trying to communicate. With his grandpa as my role model, I had my triumphs and failures as a parent. But as we stood together watching his adorable bride coming up the aisle, I realized he had honored us both in the highest possible way. No matter how young or old our parents and grandparents may be, let’s think of creative ways to honor them. After all, Exodus 20:12 says it’s the only commandment from God that comes with a promise: “Then you will live a long, full life.”
