Love Made the Difference To acquire wisdom is to love oneself. —Proverbs 19:8
Sarah was a single mom who rented an apartment next to mine when I lived in San Diego. She received no support for her baby girl, Megan, so I gladly helped them when I could. One afternoon, Sarah called to say she had just been offered a well-paying job. I was elated, until she explained it was a modeling job that required her to pose naked. I felt heartsick about the step she intended to take and the possible future impact on Megan and her. “I know what you’re thinking, but I need the money,” Sarah said defensively and hung up. I immediately prayed for this young mother I had come to love and whom God loved. The next day, she phoned back to tell me she had rejected the offer. I moved from San Diego but saw Sarah and Megan two years later, happy and well. Sarah’s fiancé was with her also. “Thank you,” she said, “for loving me enough to make me think about the future. It made all the difference.”
