Like Mother, Like Daughter Everyone who makes up proverbs will say of you, “ Like mother, like daughter.” —Ezekiel 16:44
As my daughter and I planned her younger sister’s baby shower, we tossed around various party ideas such as food and decorations. We set a day and time. Neither of us discussed our gifts. I planned to sew a baby dress using fabric from my old prom dress and a vintage pattern that once belonged to my husband’s grandmother. I’d also purchased a special bonnet. One night, my eldest phoned full of excitement over her day of shopping. She had purchased fabric and a vintage pattern to make a baby dress and bonnet. My comment was, “You are so like your mother!” It is true—I see myself in both of my daughters. I generally see the parts that make me happy because both are wonderful young women. Sometimes I see similarities in the not-so-good things, and believe me, I can pick them out and trace them back to myself in a heartbeat.
Are you leaving a loving example for your children to emulate? — Sandra McGarrity —
