My Christian Burqa Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. —Colossians 3:14
Recently I’ve lost a lot of weight, which has necessitated my buying a series of transition clothing. As my mind was set on new clothes, I was pleased to discover that the Bible offers fashion advice, along with everything else. Colossians 3:12–14 describes how a Christian can be dressed for success. So I’ve been asking the Lord every morning to dress me for the day. I ask Him to swaddle me with humility, so that every time I move, I’m reminded that He’s God and I’m not. I ask for compassion and kindness, gentleness and patience, forbearance and forgiveness. And last, over all that, I put on God’s agape love. That is sort of like wearing a Christian burqa, I’ve decided. Love covers me so completely that people will see Jesus, not me. And everything I see and hear, do and say, feel and think, is filtered through my loving Lord.
