Total Love I would be willing to be forever cursed—cut off from Christ!—if that would save them. —Romans 9:3

I went to our high school reunion with one purpose: to tell my old friends about Jesus. I’d grown up with this tight-knit group of guys long before I gave my life to Christ. Chris was one of my closest pals. Though I hadn’t seen him in thirty years, he was as affable as I remembered. When I mentioned that I’d become a Christian, he said, “I’m an atheist.” I said, “It’s okay. God can convert atheists too.” He laughed, but he had some questions: “How does God feel about drinking beer?” he asked me. “How does God feel about smoking cigars? What about gambling?” I answered the questions as clearly as I could, ultimately saying, “These things are really peripheral. God’s more interested in your soul. The important thing is believing in Christ, not a list of rules.” We exchanged email addresses and parted, him saying, “You know, I like your brand of Christianity.” I keep praying that one day he’ll look beyond his religious perceptions to see the loving Jesus.

Loving others is the key to bringing them to the loving Jesus. — Clay Taylor —
