I picked up the mystery package from my doorstep and read the sender’s name. I don’t know her. Moments later, I pulled out its hidden treasures, each with a note from a woman named Dee. A cancer survivor, she simply wanted to express her love and support to me as I battled lymphoma. I chuckled at a black velvet hat trimmed in feathery pink fur to cover my bald head. Golden retrievers on a new T-shirt offered me their puppy love. A box of chocolates, perfumed soaps, and a yellow rubber ducky put a smile on my weary face. This Idaho girl even sent two spud candies to honor her home state. I was still amazed at the box of unexpected gifts when an autographed copy of Praying Through Cancer showed up in my mailbox the next day—again from a stranger. Soon a CD of songs, written by another cancer survivor, left me shaking my head. Bonded by suffering, united in Christ as family, these angels of God touched my heart with wings of love.
