Promise Made, Promise Kept Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? —Numbers 23:19

Steve’s cancer has returned. This time, we will have to remove his eye and half his skull. If he survives the surgery, he will need extensive reconstruction.” I sat rigid, stunned by the doctor’s words. My five-year-old son had already endured a four-hour procedure to remove the neurofibrosarcoma from his sinuses. But now, new growth had appeared. Where could I turn? Although I had accepted Christ in my teens, I had drifted away from Him and gone my own way. Would God even hear me now? Desperate, I searched for answers elsewhere, but found none. Finally, the night before the surgery, I admitted I was helpless. I begged the Lord for mercy and promised if He would bring Steve through this, I would live for Him the rest of my life. Immediately, He comforted me with an overwhelming peace and assurance the cancer was gone. The next day, the surgeon found no cancer—just a bone rounding itself off. God kept His promise, I strive daily to keep mine, and Steve, now forty-five, is cancer free!

God meets us in the tough places and grants us hope and peace. — Loretta Boyett —
