The King of Compassion When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “ Don’t cry!” he said. —Luke 7:13
Hey, man,” a stranger approached my husband as he pumped gas. “I need to buy a can of oil for my car so I can go see my sick dad, and I forgot my wallet.” I looked around and saw no empty car—only a wine store across the street. My husband didn’t look for corroboration as he opened his wallet. I was glad I was the one working in downtown Chicago instead of my husband. He would have never survived the panhandlers. God’s given Mark a gift of compassion, and many hard-luck stories—whether financial appeals or excuses from our kids—get the benefit of his doubt. His heart just overflows with compassion. Kinda like Jesus, I guess. Compassion was a main element of Jesus’s life. Day after day, He was bombarded by people who had needs. Jesus never expressed frustration with all the people and their problems. Instead, Jesus truly felt their pain, responded with love, and used His abilities to help them.
When we have needs, we can turn to the One whose compassion is unending. — Jenni Davenport —
