A Sister’s Unfailing Love But I trust in your unfailing love. —Psalm 13:5
Go to the car right now!” my sister demanded. “No,” I snapped, “you can’t tell me what to do!” “Yes, I can. I’m your big sister,” she shouted. There wasn’t a lot of sisterly love between us while we were growing up. My sister, Sheryl, was a drill sergeant. After high school, I attended college two states away—in part to get away from her. We seldom spoke, but one February day I received a phone call. “So what’s up, Sheryl?” I asked in a surprised tone. There was a long pause, followed by the words, “God took Aaron home!” My sister’s oldest son died of no apparent cause; he was just seventeen years old. I flew out for the funeral, holding my sister’s hand and wiping away her tears. When I returned to my family in Pennsylvania, I promised to keep in touch, and I kept my word! It’s been twenty years since Aaron’s death, and last Christmas my sister gave me a heart-shaped frame with a
picture of us in matching Easter dresses with the words, “A sister’s love never fails.” For the first time, I felt my sister’s love, and she felt mine.
Sometimes it takes years to develop, but there’s nothing like the love of family. — Connie Pombo —
