Faith for the Future I entrust my spirit into your hand. —Psalm 31:5

I’m nostalgic. Cleaning out my parents’ estate has been tough this year because I like to keep ties to the past. I like its security. I tend to resist change and would just like to stay put —especially when life is comfortable. Peter also wanted to stay put in Luke 9. Jesus went to the mountain to pray, and while the disciples slept, Moses and Elijah arrived to chat with Jesus—perhaps to cheer Him on. When Peter woke up and saw the hero party going on, he was ready to set up permanent tents and stay. That was much better than the imminent death Jesus was talking about! But the glory moments ended and the men had to move on. As we enter a new year, I’m reminded that we can’t cling to the security of the past, or even today. We have to keep moving on into an insecure future, where we don’t know what will happen. But we don’t move into the future alone. The One who loves us best will be there with us every step of the way.

We can enter the future confidently, remembering that God goes with us. — Julie Durham —
