Reflect, Unite, and Conquer You know the saying, “ Four months between planting and harvest.” But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. —John 4:35
I wanted to grow a tomato—lots of them. Year after year I failed. I could not get a vine to produce even one tomato. “Think like a tomato,” I told myself. I did. I determined that if I were a tomato plant, I actually would not be happiest in my own yard. Instead, I’d prefer a narrow strip of my neighbor’s south-facing front yard that was right next to my sidewalk and garage wall. Here, vines would get the great southern exposure of my neighbor Patty’s yard and the additional heat radiating from my concrete and bricks. So I went to see Patty. “Patty, let’s team up and plant tomatoes!” I suggested, telling her my plan. She agreed. We amazed ourselves and others as we harvested bushel after bushel of the delicious red globes. Patty had been my neighbor for twenty years, but until this year neither of us had seen the field ripe for harvesting that lay between our houses.
