Going My Way? Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means “ God is with us.” —Matthew 1:23
Hey, Elsi! Do you mind giving Sharona a ride home from church today?” Actually, I thought, I do mind. I’m not going in that direction, I’ve got a lot to do, and I’m in a hurry. But what I say is, “Sure, I’d be glad to!” Sharona, who usually takes the bus, has a box of groceries to take home. We slide the box into the car, and she climbs into the backseat. She has to sit there because Karyn is in the front. Karyn lives fifteen minutes away, in a different direction. She is thrilled that she can attend church, which only happens because I’m willing to give her a ride. There are times when going out of my way is a problem. But, I remind myself, Jesus went out of His way to come to me. So how can I do less?
It’s worth going out of our way to show love.
