Need More Love? God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. —1 John 4:16
Every detail of the women’s luncheon was painstakingly tied to the theme: love. I sat at a table, staring at the red heartshaped centerpiece, wondering when it would end. But then the speaker made a statement that struck me to the core. She said we can’t drum up love in ourselves—we can only be filled with it. Apart from the source, the flow is cut off. If we struggle to love others, the real problem may be our lack of God, not our lack of love. I thought about how many times I had missed morning devotions lately, the weekends when we chose to sleep in and skip church. It was true. I had wandered from my Lord. Was it any wonder I was impatient with my children, critical of my husband, annoyed by others? I vowed to reconnect to my Source. How sweet it was when God’s love flowed through me again!
If we need more love, we need more God—because God is love.
