Words That Still Speak Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. —Ephesians 4:29
It was one of those chilling calls that make you tremble in the middle of the night. “Pastor, it’s Dolly,” the man said to my husband. “The paramedics are taking her to the hospital and it doesn’t look good.” My husband jumped out of bed and hurried to the hospital, but when he arrived, Dolly had already passed. Dolly was a beautiful person. She lived to love and encourage others, and faithfully picked up folks for church in the van every Sunday morning. I was unable to attend Dolly’s funeral because I was recovering from major surgery. When our mail arrived that day, I was shocked to find a get-well card she’d written on the morning of her death to cheer me. Little did she know when she wrote and mailed those words that they’d be some of her last. During the time of her funeral, I sat home crying like a baby in my recliner, holding her precious words close to my chest. She closed with, “I miss you. I love you. Get well soon.”
None of us have the promise of tomorrow. We only have right now to speak life-giving, encouraging words to show our love. — Peggy Morris —
