At my new job as desk ward secretary, one older charge nurse took an instant dislike to me when she found out I was “religious.” Even when I did my job well, there were no thanks. Judy only sniffed with impatience and spoke sharply to me. The more I prayed about the situation, the more tension grew. Things came to a head one evening when there was an emergency. As soon as the crisis was over, Judy told everyone how incompetent and useless I was. Blinking back tears, I apologized even though I wasn’t at fault. Back home I broke down, telling the Lord that there was nothing more that I could do. He replied, “Just be faithful.” The next evening I gave Judy the biggest smile I could muster up. To my shock, Judy smiled back. While we never became close friends, we ended up with a great working relationship.
