Loving Others Through Prayer The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. —James 5:16

I hung up the phone and felt helpless. My friend was suffering after major surgery and there was no way for me to help. She was hundreds of miles away, and phone calls of encouragement just seemed so inadequate. I prayed for her on the phone as we talked, but I wished I could do more. If only I were closer, I could help her with her struggles and burdens in so many ways. Then it hit me. Praying for her was not the only the way I could help—it was the best way. Physical help could be beneficial, but prayer was the greatest way to serve the one I cared about. Showing love through prayer made me an active participant in God’s intervention in the comfort and healing of someone I loved. I now understood that praying for those we love moves God and His angels to powerful and compassionate action.

Prayer can be the best way to show love toward those important to us. — Michael K. Farrar —
