Protection in the Night Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. —Psalm 17:7
The shrill chirp jolted me awake. “Hullo?” my husband mumbled. Then, “Thanks.” He jumped up and disappeared down the hallway. Minutes later, he slid back into bed. “That was Kathy across the street. Our garage door was open.” The next morning I saw Kathy. “Vince says I shouldn’t have called,” she said. “No, we’re grateful. We’ve had stuff stolen before.” “At two o’clock I bolted awake. A little voice said, ‘Fred and Martha’s garage door is open!’ I got up and made the call. The strange thing is, just minutes later, I heard a car drive down the street very slowly, like it was casing the neighborhood.” I got goose bumps. Clearly, Kathy’s prompting and obedience saved us from another burglary. I had prayed to be more alert to God’s love in my life. His answer? To use our neighbor to protect us. How often does God demonstrate His love and we’re oblivious, completely missing a divine kiss? I thank God for all those times, even if it is two o’clock in the morning.
Be alert to God’s love and protection which comes in many forms, at any time. — Martha Pope Gorris —
