The Love of Money Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. —Hebrews 13:5
When John D. Rockefeller was asked what he wanted, he said, “Just one more dollar.” At the time, he was the richest man in the world. In time, though, Rockefeller realized even his billions couldn’t satisfy. He turned to doing good works, donating money to charity, and so on, to give back to those who had given so much to him. When he went out on the streets in his limousine, he would take packets of dimes to throw out of the car to the children running alongside. It was a small thing, but the kids loved it. I once had a friend who thought about little more than money. He ended up divorced, his kids hated him, and all they wanted was for him to die so they could get their hands on his money. He finally died alone. What if he had loved other things besides money? His family? His wife? Friends? People working for him? How different his life might have been.
Don’t love money; love the people and the God you can give it to. — Joseph Compaine —
