The Special Coat May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. —Psalm 20:4

I strutted out of the store with the big fashionable box in my arms. I couldn’t wait to get home and see what Daddy thought. Wearing the coat, I danced into his workshop. I paraded in front of Daddy and spun around. “What do you think? Do you like the coat?” Mom entered the shop and explained to Daddy that we had brought the coat home on approval, because it was more expensive than we had planned. I watched Daddy’s face with my sixteen-year-old eyes pleading for approval. Oh, pleeeease, Daddy, pleeease. He picked up a rag and methodically wiped his grimy fingers one by one. My heart raced waiting for his answer. “I . . . think she needs to have that special coat,” laughed my daddy. I jumped up and down and hugged him. I loved him so. This coat my daddy provided said to me, “She is worth it.” I felt special even without the coat, because of his action.

Our heavenly Father gives us the desires of our hearts because we’re special to Him. — Bev Schwind —
