Knowing All the Answers Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. —1 Corinthians 8:2
My wife sometimes calls me the “Answer Man” because I tend to know the answers to trivia questions, both biblical and otherwise. It’s a nice nickname and I am thankful that my memory does retain a lot of the facts I learn, but I know the truth: I actually know so little. But I don’t tell her that. Our world focuses a lot on what we know. While theoretical knowledge, a retention of facts, and even experiential knowledge is good, knowledge only goes so far. Knowing the answers is not what life is all about, although it can help. As Theodore Roosevelt, John Maxwell, and other leadership gurus have said, no one cares how much we know until they know how much we care. Life is not about building up a library of knowledge in our brains. Whether the facts are useless trivia—which I excel in— or vital facts, knowledge alone doesn’t change a whole lot. It’s when we combine knowledge not only with passion, but with love, that we can have a great effect on others.
Knowing is not enough. Loving is the best part of knowing. — Joseph Compaine —
